Group Picture 2010 Youth XC

The Gate City Striders youth running program is for young runners between the ages of 7 and 18.  It is a year-round program focused on developing a healthy lifestyle and preparing participants for the USATF Junior Olympic program.  We offer a full range of competition including indoor and outdoor track and field, cross country, and participation as a team in local road races. Our objective is to train the kids to be the best they can be while educating them about proper stretching, nutrition, and mental preparation.  Our program is led by experienced coaches who will pay close attention to all of the youth athletes’ needs and will strengthen their love of running.

GCS Youth Track & Field
Our youth track & field program consists of twice-weekly workouts from April through June, and a series of low-key meets.  Runners can also participate in the USATF Junior Olympics program.

GCS Youth Cross Country
This program begins at the end of October and is designed to prepare kids for participation in USATF races in November and December.

Summer Running
Summer running consists of easy distance runs to help kids build a base for fall cross country programs. 

Local Road Races
Our youth runners enjoy participating as a team in several local road races, including our own Summer Trail Series and Freeze Your Buns Series, as well as the Millenium Mile in December, and the Hollis Fast 5k in June.
