GCS Girls Cross Country Teams Run Strong in USATF Competition

At the USATF Junior Olympic Cross Country Association Race on November 15 in Amherst, NH, the GCS Youth girls' team (coached by Ron Johnston) placed first in their division and the GCS Bantam girls' team (coached by Karen Long and Jodie Dolan) placed third.  The girls' midget team* (coached by Bill Spencer) placed seventh in their division.  By placing in the top three teams, the Youth and Bantam teams qualified to compete in the USATF Junior Olympic Region 1 XC Championship on November 22 in Augusta, Maine against teams from New England, Connecticut, Rhode Island and New York.

At the Region 1 meet, the Youth Girls team continued their winning streak, placing first in a field of nine teams, which clinched them a spot at the USATF Junior Olympic XC National Championship on December 12 in Reno, Nevada.  The team of Meghan Philpot, Courtney Hawkins, Christiana Pike, Brianna Lippitt, Shauna Salem, Marie Morrier, Cassie Wright, and Victoria Lizzotte, will represent GCS in Reno.  Good luck girls!

The Girls Bantam (10 and under) team - Stephanie Bishop, Alexandra Dunhom, Caroline Fischer, Angela Graves, Emily Graves, Carly Holtshouser, Emma Long, Lindsey Wright - narrowly missed a chance to go to Nationals with a fourth place finish in Augusta.  Congratulations on a great season, girls!

*Erin Tyrrell, Samantha Lees, Lucia Lansing, Sarah Shields, Anneka Paelinck, Aimee Krafft, Ivanna Gutierrez, and Sabrina Bishop participated on Coach Spencer's midget team (11 and 12-year olds).
