What are the Gate City Striders?
We are a running club which is more than 750 members strong. Perhaps you have seen us on local roads, at a race, or in the news. We are an active group and we have fun while staying in shape. We serve Southern New Hampshire and the Merrimack Valley. We offer something for every type of running enthusiast, be you a fitness or recreational walker, race walker, beginner jogger, competitive runner or elite athlete.
Why should I consider joining?
The many benefits of becoming a Gate City Strider include: access to nationally acclaimed “best in class” coaching, entry fee reimbursement for all New England Grand Prix Races, a youth program for members, ages 8 & above, a bi-monthly newsletter (including club news, race coverage, and feature articles), discounts at local running stores, guest speakers at club meetings, post race barbeques, annual awards dinners and much, much, more.
Where do you meet?
Regular GCS membership meetings are typically held on the 3rd Wednesday of every month to discuss what is top of mind regarding the club. Most often the meetings occur at Martha’s Exchange at 185 Main Street in Nashua. But, sometimes the locations vary depending on the time of year. Check out our club calendar for specific times and places.
How much does it cost to become a member?
A single membership is $25/year, a family membership is $35/year and a youth membership is $10/year.
Memberships run one year from the end of the month you joined.
Where do you run?
In the summer we run together at Mine Falls Park and the Nashua High South Track. In the winter we run at Pennichuck Middle School and indoors at the Hampshire Dome in Milford. Also, all year round we meet for long runs from the Tennis Courts on Depot Road in Hollis as well as early morning runs starting behind the 99 Restaurant off of exit 7.
Will joining GCS make me a better runner?
Yes. Not only will you have access to some of the best coaches around, you’ll also be hanging with some of the best, most experienced and friendliest runners in the state. We have many opportunities to train together, exchange ideas, offer encouragement and share a laugh. In short we’re like your family, only faster.
Where do you race?
Our racing team is composed of runners from each of the 6 New England States who enjoy competing in races all across the region. In addition to the New England & New Hampshire Grand Prix Series the GCS Racing Team competes at numerous other club races throughout the year. Whether it’s Road, Track, Trail or Mountain, if it's an important local team running event, chances are we're there!
Do I have to race to be a member?
No. Although we strongly encourage the friendly competition that racing provides, our club is made up of all different kinds of members from walkers to elite athlete and everything in between. We offer a couch to 5k program for beginners and we also have plenty of non-running ways to be part of something great including volunteering at one of our signature GCS events.
How do I get a team uniform?
Team racing singlets, warm-up sweats and other GCS apparel are available through our Striderwear coordinator – Amy Doyle. Just send her an e-mail and she’ll get you what you need.
