Summer Double Dip

On the weekend of July 17th & 18th, the GCS-Triad Racing team had a rare “double-header” race weekend. We had 26 runners toe the line at the 43rd Annual Bill Luti 5m in Concord on Saturday. And, another 38 hit the mean streets of Stowe for the 29th Annual Stowe 8m in Vermont on Sunday.

The Bill Luti 5 miler is one of the oldest road races in New England and a fixture on various local road race Series’ including: the NHGP, the CARS and the Summer Swelter Series. Ok, the last one is made up but it’s completely appropriate because, as a mid-July race, this one always seems to be un-bearably hot. And, with temps in the upper 80’s and stifling humidity at the start, this year’s edition was certainly no exception!

Luti

At Bill Luti  our fastest Male runner was Kevin Collins who ran a 29:39 (5:56) and our fastest Female Runner was Amber Ferreira who ran a 31:02 (6:13). Amber Ferreira, Tammy Gaffey, Denis Tranchemontagne, Aline Kenney & Barbara Robinson each won their NHGP age groups! We had 21 (of the 26) runners score points for the club led by Denis & Tammy who each scored 10! And, the club scored 128 total team points in the battle to defend our title against that scrappy team from Greater Derry (who scored 133).

At 29 years (and counting) The Stowe 8 miler is also one of the older road races around. And, this year, the race was being directed by Loco Running out of Newmarket, NH so that meant we were in store for some great little perks like: A cross-country style start with pre-race team introductions, well organized and evenly spaced water stops, and a fine post race party including craft-beer and home-made ice cream.

At Stowe, our fastest Male runner was Rich Smith who ran a 45:47 (5:44) and our fastest Female Runner was Cathy Merra who ran a 53:41 (6:43). David Herr, Len Hall, Joe Noonan & David Pember each finished in the top three in their age-groups. And, Cathy Merra & Milt Schumacher won their respective age groups outright! Our Womens Open Team finished 9th, the Open Men finished 7th, the Senior Men finished 6th, the Senior Women finished 5th, the Masters Men & Masters Women each finished 4th and the Veteran Men finished 3rd.
