Part of the team at Amherst

41 GCS-Triad Racing Team members made and the 2+ hour ride West to Amherst, MA for the 36th running of the DH Jones 10 miler. This race marked the official kick off of the racing season as it was the first of seven New England Grand Prix Races. And, unlike last year, the weather conditions were perfect for racing and the times our runners turned in proved it!

The Wolfe Pack

Rich Smith was our fastest male runner. He finished in a time of 57:02 (5:43 pace) which was good enough for 43rd place overall, 5th in his 40-49 age group and first on the Mens Masters Team ahead of Todd Callaghan (58:18) and Steve Wolfe (1:00:25). Ken Snow finished first on the Mens Seniors Team with a time of 1:08:28 outpacing Chuck Landry (1:09:58) & Rich Stockdale (1:11:22) for the win. And, Trevor Ward led the way for the Mens Veterans Team with a time of 1:10:04 which was good enough for 6th in his age-group amongst all of the 60+ competitors and first on the team just ahead of Joe Noonan (1:13:53) & Milt Schumacher ( 1:15:24).

Cassie Wright

On the womens side, Karen Pattelena ran a super strong race while finishing in a PR time of 1:08:05 which was good enough for 3rd overall in her 40-49 age group and first on the Womens Masters Team ahead of Karen Long (1:11:49) & Tammy Gaffey (1:12:12). For the Open Women, Bonnie Ritchotte lead the way with a fine 1:08:59 over Cassie Wright (1:11:29) & Alison Findon (1:19:59). Even though Cassie did finish second to Bonnie on the Open Team she ended up 1st in her 15 & under age group. Congrats Cassie! And, unlike last year when she ran as a "Team of One", Aline Kenney had help in her age-group this year finishing in a time of 1:29:36 which was good enough for 2nd overall in her 60+ age group and first on the 50+ team of Emily Strong (1:36:34) and Suzanne Long (1:56:58). Aline and Emily also grabbed an "asterisk" for achieving the USATF age group guideline for that distance. Way to go girls!

Any current club member can run any of the seven New England Grand Prix races free of charge regardless of the number Grand Prix races you're able to run. And, the race entry fees will all be pre-paid by the club so that there are no up-front costs for you. Just show up and run! It couldn't be easier! Plus, we'll also be organizing our “world-famous” team carpool from Nashua to New Bedford, MA on the morning of the race. So, many of you will be able to kick back, enjoy that first (or second) cup of coffee and relax on your way down to the starting line!

In order for us to receive the team discount on the entry fees I need to get our team list into the race director no later than March 19th. So, that doesn’t give us much time to get our team (and act) together. If you would like to join The Team for another great GCS-Triad Racing event please e-mail me no later than Tuesday, March 16th and let me know. A complete Team List of those who have already signed up can be found here. Hope you can make it!
