Applefest Rules

No Walkers

Runners only. NO WALKERS. We have narrow time window in which we can stage the race. We have to have the course cleaned up and traffic back to normal before most walkers would be able to finish. When we tried to be accommodating, walkers got lost in the twists and turns later in the race and that did not sit well with residents and town officials who so graciously allow us to disturb their rural agricultural town in the height of their fall foliage farm stand season. We prefer to remain good guests so walkers are not welcome.

Disallow items

Applefest is run on a course which is not completely closed. While some of the entrances to the race course are blocked to outside traffic, there are hundreds of residents who live inside the course area and will be sharing the narrow back roads with the runners.

With the safety of the runners, volunteers and the residents of our host town Hollis NH in mind, runners violating the rules on dis-allowed items will be DISQUALIFIED.

Mere POSSESSION of disallowed items on the race course will be considered a violation and the runner will be disqualified.

The following are allowed. No pets, baby strollers, skates, headsets earbuds, mini-speakers anywhere on or around the body. And just to be clear, that means that IPODS in any form or by any other name, or by any other design are not allowed.

This is a safety/insurance issue and has nothing to do with a like or dislike of music. It has to do with the potential future cost of insurance and/or the possible lack of availability of insurance for our race and our club.

Watches, small wrist GPS and heart rate monitors are allowed providing they issue no loud sound or have no wires leading anywhere. Fuel belt and fanny packs for water bottles are allowed.

Applefest does not consider this a game of wits, stealth or technology changes. If any device is capable; 1) of playing music, 2) of acquiring the ability to play music, 3) of being a continuous distraction to the user, then it is disallowed.
