ANSWERS
Q. What is Fitness University?
A. Fitness University is a running fitness program developed by the Gate
City Striders back in 1989. The Striders are a Nashua area running club.
This program was developed for Children of the Greater Nashua area's communities
ages 3-14. The program is dedicated to promote the importance of fitness,
fun and good health. As part of the program, Running Clinics are held
throughout the summer months, with "Graduation Day" scheduled for Saturday,
July 26. Finals day is the showcase for all the hard work each child has
put forth during these clinics. This year Finals Day will be held in Nashua,
NH at the track and Athletic field of Nashua High School South. The Registration
tent will be open from 9:00am - 9:30am. Opening Ceremonies will be commencing
at 9:30am.
Q. What is the cost to participate?
A. Due to the support of our Corporate Sponsor, Southern New Hampshire
Medical Center, tuition for Fitness University is absolutely free of charge.
Q. Are there Awards at Finals Day?
A. YES! All participants regardless of the event, will be rewarded for
the efforts with a medallion and a bright-colored Fitness University graduate
T-SHIRT. Packets will also be given out through-out the day, containing
healthy snacks, and fun products, just for kids.
Q. Will there be refreshments?
A. Our generous local merchants have been supportive partners in providing
fresh fruit, drinks and great snacks at no charge. There will be refreshing
spring water provided to quench the greatest of thirsts.
Q. As a parent or guardian, what is expected of me?
A. Most of all, encouragement. This program has been designed to be beneficial
to children of all abilities void of any "tryouts", where kids can easily
be discouraged from participation. Your child may never be a track star
or marathon runner, but the lessons learned at Fitness University can
help your child develop good healthy habits for an active life.
Q. Tell me more about "Finals Day"?
A. On Finals Day, July 26, your child must be prepared to run, and do
so with a smile on their face, and a positive attitude. The grounds will
be totally closed to vehicular traffic, and supervised throughout. There
will be enough Gate City Striders on hand to accompany all the children
on their runs.
Q. Where will the running Clinics be held, and where can I obtain information
about them?
A. Training clinics, last up to 75-90 minutes, will be held throughout
the Nashua Area community, over several weeks leading up to Finals Day
on July 26. The list of locations and dates appears elsewhere on this
site. The clinics are designed to provide the opportunity to assess your
child's aptitude to Finals Day, incorporating fun into "hands on" training
sessions.
Q. What are the attendence requirements?
A. Your Child:
* Does not need to be registered ahead of time to attend
any clinic.
* Does not need to attend all clinics but may attend as many as they like.
* Does not need to attend a clinic before attending Finals Day but the
experience is greatly diminished by not attending clinics.
* Is not required to attend Finals day but Finals day is waaaaaaaaaay
more fun than a clinic.
Your child does need to be encouraged to participate. Our goal is to
give your child an experience that will encourage them to stay active.

Q. When could a clinic be cancelled? (Lightning YES,
Rain NO)
We have noted over the years that even if there is some minor rain during
a clinic, that in spite of the fears of some cautious parents, neither
a parent nor a child has melted from getting a little wet.
Unless there is constant rain, we usually assume we will have the clinic
as there are normally a number of folks who show up taking the chance
that it will not be or will have stopped raining. If there is a high danger
of lightning at the time we are there then we would stop or not have the
clinic. We try to make every attempt to hold a clinic because there is
no way or timeslot to reschedule them."
